The Cheakamus Centre Cabin Renovation

This regenerative cabin retrofit project involves the design and construction of an exterior and interior retrofit for an existing cabin within The Cheakamus Centre outdoor educational school site. The project has partnered with BCIT, the Aboriginal Housing Management Association (AHMA), as well as Envelope 1st Consultant and Contracting to develop skills-building educational training courses that will run in tandem with design and construction phases.

Beyond the renewal of aging accommodation infrastructure on site, the project will also serve to improve surrounding ecological systems, and enhance teaching and learning opportunities provided by The Cheakamus Centre programs. In this way, the process of design and construction will seek mutualistic outcomes among the living systems that share this place, and work towards building on the strong foundation of outdoor experiential education that continues to leave a positive legacy for all that attend The Cheakamus Centre.
